The most famous of the Maison's wines was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The Emperor asks Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the best cuvée of the House, which he particularly appreciates. To accentuate the singularity of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle will be specially created. It will bear the name of this precious material, which enhances its transparency and luminosity.
Made only in "great vintages", when the maturity of the Chardonnay (about 40%) and Pinot Noir (about 60%) that compose it is perfect, Cristal ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests for 8 months after disgorgement.
Remarkably balanced, Cristal is a linear champagne, with an absolutely unique persistence in the mouth. The velvety texture reveals fruit aromas supported by a mineral power from which notes of white fruits and citrus are released. Cristal is a wine that ages wonderfully. It can be kept for more than twenty years without losing any of its freshness and character.
THE MATTER AND THE SPLENDOR OF A BRIGHT YEAR
2014 was a bright year, in which the fruit and finesse gave their maximum splendor. A year of full sun, fruit of a generous and perfectly ripe harvest, the 2014 Cristal assumes its full identity. 2014 has given us wines that are more material than ever, in which the purity of the chalk, more draining, has allowed us to limit climate risks. Delicate and increasingly eco-friendly sustainable cultivation techniques have led to a Cristal 2014 that shows us the maximum balance between maturity and freshness. JOYFUL BEAUTY
With its rich, fleshy character and exceptional maturity, the 2014 Cristal reveals the intrinsic purity of its aromas with astonishing ease. The power of the fruit melts into a chalky, firm and saline freshness, offering an extremely delicate persistence. The 2014 Cristal is unabashedly exuberant, with an expressiveness that will unleash its true structure over time.
Reflection of a vintage, more Cristal than ever, this 2014 delights effortlessly and with candor. It is a great champagne, rich in resources and charm. Fully Cristal, intensely 2014.
"A wine of pure pleasure, a wine of great gastronomy, Cristal is delicate and powerful at the same time, yet subtle and precise." Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master

Tasting Notes
|
Golden color, bold, bright and brilliant. Dynamic effervescence, incessant succession of clouds of bubbles. Intense, fragrant and highly pure bouquet. The concentrated and candied citrus fruits blend delicately with notes of harvest and lightly toasted almonds. Sensation of a generous ripeness of the fruit, muted from fresh and acidulous contrasts, delicate and energetic. Fruity palate and silky texture, amplified by a delicate perfectly integrated and deliciously effervescence elegant. The purity and perfection of the ripe yellow fruits, blends with the intense chalky freshness, typical of Cristal, palpable and savoury at the same time. On the palate it is full-bodied, juicy, concentrated, elongated, thanks to the defined and spicy structure of the refinements partial in oak barrels. The finale builds in crescendo, revealing a full plot in a long, savoury and sublimely elegant finish. |
