Marchesi Antinori – Tignanello Toscana IGT 2018 75cl
An icon of Italian winemaking, capable of combining the character of Tuscan Sangiovese with the international complexity of Cabernets. Tignanello 2018 is a great, elegant, and profound red, characterized by ripe fruit, silky tannins, and extraordinary persistence.
Tignanello 2018 is one of the signature wines of the Marchesi Antinori family and one of the labels that helped change the history of Italian wine. Produced in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, at the Tignanello Estate, it comes from a vineyard of approximately 77 hectares situated between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, on soils rich in limestone and characterized by tuffaceous elements.
The story of Tignanello began with the 1970 vintage, when the wine was produced as a Chianti Classico Riserva. It took its current name in 1971, and starting from the 1975 vintage, white grapes were permanently removed from the blend. A pioneer in the aging of Sangiovese in barriques and the use of international varieties alongside the Tuscan grape, Tignanello has become a benchmark for the renewal of Italian viticulture.
The blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc expresses the balance between territorial identity and varietal complexity. The 2018 vintage benefited from favorable ripening conditions, with a summer that was warm but free of extremes and a dry, breezy end to the season. The harvest began around September 20th with the Sangiovese and ended on October 12th with the Cabernets.
Vinification takes place in conical fermentation tanks, with macerations carefully managed to preserve aromas and extract color and elegant tannins. After malolactic fermentation in barriques, the wine ages for approximately 14–16 months in new and second-fill French and Hungarian oak barrels, followed by another 12 months in the bottle before release.
In the glass, it presents an intense and deep ruby red color. The bouquet is complex, with notes of ripe red fruit, black cherry, sour cherry, and redcurrant, accompanied by hints of vanilla, mint, white pepper, and myrtle. The palate is rich and balanced, supported by soft, silky tannins and a freshness that provides lift, elegance, and persistence. A wine of great personality, suitable both for the table and for a collector's cellar.
