Description

Il Bruciato is one of the most symbolic and famous wines of the Guado al Tasso winery, owned by the legendary Antinori family. It is a red wine from the prestigious Tuscan area of Bolgheri , obtained from a blend of French vines, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, which reach very high levels of quality in these lands. The name comes from a forest that in the 18th century was completely burned by the inhabitants of the area as a sign of protest against the noble Della Gherardesca family, lords of Bolgheri at the time, who forbade farmers from hunting in it.

The 2023 vintage in Bolgheri began with a rather cold winter.
mild and with little rainfall which led to a slight
early budding, which began on March 20th.
During spring, characterized by frequent rains
even if of moderate intensity, careful attention was required
vineyard work to preserve the health of the vines.
July was a generally warm and dry month and has
positively slowed down the vegetative vigour of the vines creating the
optimal conditions for veraison and the beginning of ripening
of the grapes. In August the temperatures were normal
while towards the end of the month, a disturbance of origin
Atlantic brought rain and refreshment, restoring
conditions favorable to the good continuation of maturation. The
September, sunny and dry, allowed for
reach full ripeness in each vineyard parcel,
with excellent quality levels. The Merlot was harvested between
early and mid-September, while Syrah and Cabernet Franc between
mid and late September. The harvest ended with the
Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in the first decade of
October.

Winemaking and Refinement Upon arrival at the cellar, the selected grapes were destemmed and softly pressed.
Fermentation and maceration took place in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks for a period of approximately 10-15 days at a temperature of 28-30 °C.
A portion of the Merlot and Syrah musts was kept at lower fermentation temperatures to better preserve the varietal aromas.
Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel tanks, and was completed by the end of the year for all varieties.
Subsequently, the Cabernet Sauvignon was joined by Merlot, Syrah, and small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: the resulting wine once again met the barrique, where it rested before being bottled.
