Description |
The name Donna Olimpia 1898 is in honor of Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca, who christened the estate in 1898 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their wedding. The Bolgheri Rosso di Donna Olimpia 1898, like the other Bolgheri, sees mainly international vines grown in this area of Tuscany. This label is no exception, in which the different varieties come together to create a balanced profile of taste and smell.
A bottle with a strong identity, which celebrates one of the most prestigious territories in the entire Italian wine scene. Deep and powerful on the nose, this Bolgheri Rosso 2020 Donna Olimpia offers notes of black plum, blackberry, sandalwood and cumin. Lots of cherries in alcohol dominate the secondary scene. Important body, slightly ripe tannins and a finish of good persistence. It will give its best from 2023 onwards.

Winemaking technique |
The harvest takes place when the grapes are fully ripe in the months of September and October, and the selection of the grapes takes place directly in the vineyard. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel wine vats at a controlled temperature, favoring prolonged contact of the skins with the must. Malolactic fermentation occurs immediately after alcoholic fermentation. The refinement takes place in French oak barrels for a period that varies between 12 and 14 months, the barrels are 50% new and 50% used for one year. The refinement in the bottle lasts for at least 6 months before being marketed. |
