Conterno Giacomo
Conterno Giacomo - Barolo DOCG Riserva Monfortino 2015 cl75
Description | Monfortino is a wine that has rightfully entered the Olympus of the world's great wines, monumental in its grandeur, capable of defying time like few wines can do. A piece of Langa, deep and territorial, just like the winery founded by the Conternos in 1900 without ever abandoning the classic and austere interpretation of a vocational grape variety like Nebbiolo. The first Monfortino label appeared in 1924, to underline the location of the vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, but only in 1974 was the wine obtained entirely from the Vigna Francia of Serralunga D'Alba. Monfortino Riserva usually comes from a selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes located in the Francia vineyard, the same one that produces Barolo and Barbera Francia, other monumental wines of the Conterno family. The exceptionality of this 2015 vintage lies in the fact that the grapes do not come entirely from the Francia vineyard but we find a very small percentage of grapes from the Arione vineyard. This exceptional peculiarity together with the excellent vintage will make these bottles particularly sought-after on the market. |
Grapes used | 100% Nebbiolo |
Winemaking |
After a meticulous selection of the bunches, the first fermentation takes place in 61 hectolitre oak vats, with long macerations, including with the cap submerged, as per tradition. The liquid is then moved to large wooden barrels, mainly of Austrian origin, where, after malolactic fermentation, it ages for approximately six years before bottling. |
Organoleptic examination |
Barolo Monfortino Riserva presents itself in the glass with a garnet red colour. The nose is a poignant portrait of Langa! Floral scents, red fruits where cherry stands out: It remains difficult to distinguish the scents given the great cohesion and harmony that characterizes it. The tasting is experiential , a real cyclone that conquers the palate filling it with grace and power at the same time. One can imagine how far this wine can go and it must be drunk at least once in a lifetime. |
