Description |
Cantine Nervi is the oldest winery in the Gattinara denomination; founded way back in 1906 by Guido Ferretti, Luigi Nervi's brother-in-law, the company was then, from 2011 to 2018, owned by the Norwegian Astrup family. The turning point came in April 2018, with the decision by Roberto Conterno - owner of the renowned and prestigious Giacomo Conterno winery - to proceed with the acquisition of the company. A new adventure on international markets for Nervi has begun just over a year ago, demonstrating the fact that the entire Alto Piemonte area is gradually finding itself, attracting prominent names in the regional winemaking scene. Here the soils have unique characteristics: the vines grow luxuriantly on volcanic porphyries rich in minerals that have a high content of clay, mixed with fine sands; between 290 and 425 meters above sea level, from Nebbiolo grapes, locally called Spanna, which here express a fantastic minerality.
Gattinara di Nervi is a red wine of remarkable intensity and elegance, aged 36 months in barrel. Inebriating scents of ripe fruit and sweet spices with hints of undergrowth. On the palate it is tasty, balanced, rich, moderately tannic and perfectly mineral. |
Organoleptic examination |
With an intense garnet red colour . On the nose and in the mouth it presents itself as clean, frank and austere, it is a Gattinara that releases notes and nuances of ripe red fruits and undergrowth, earth, light and elegant spiciness. Full, incisive, with floury tannins and a fine persistence; balanced in its marked minerality.
