Description

The Bolgheri Superiore from Tenuta Guado al Tasso dei Marchesi Antinori is a prestigious Supertuscan, a symbol par excellence of the Bolgheri terroir and of Italian red wine.
It is one of the jewels in the crown of the entire Maremma region, which, thanks to its elegance and charm, has become a flagship of the wine production of our peninsula.
Its success is mainly linked to the centuries-old tradition of the Marchesi Antinori and the large territory surrounding the vines, nicknamed by many authors "the Bolgheri amphitheatre" for its unique and rare beauty.

The 2019 vintage was characterized by a generally cold period between April and May and a generally warm and dry climate until July. The initial slight delay in the vegetative cycle was recovered starting from the summer. The sudden increase in temperatures, especially for the later varieties where fruit set had not yet finished, favored a production characterized by sparse and light bunches. The stable and sunny climate of the months of August and September allowed the grapes to complete ripening in optimal conditions, obtaining an exceptional level of quality for each variety. The harvest began on September 16 with the Merlot, later than average, continued at the end of September with the Cabernet Franc and concluded on October 5 with the last parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A vintage with great aging potential.

Winemaking and Refinement

Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were selected at two distinct times: before and after destemming, to ensure that only perfectly ripe grapes reached the fermentation tanks. As with every harvest, the individual vineyard plots were divided into many small collection plots according to the climatic trend of the year, distinguishing them by the characteristics of the grapes and vinifying them separately. Fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 15 - 20 days. After the racking operations, the wine was transferred directly into barriques, where, by the end of the year, malolactic fermentation took place. In February, the best vinified plots were selected and combined. Guado al Tasso was then transferred again into new French oak barriques where it remained to refine until bottling in June 2021.
