Description |
"CastelGiocondo is a unique place in Montalcino, where the great variety of exposures and soils – galestro, clay and Pliocene sands – give this Brunello infinite nuances. A versatility of notes that evolve over time and that make me want to continually discover, savor and remember." Lamberto Frescobaldi Iconic Brunello di Montalcino signed by the Frescobaldi family, obtained from pure Sangiovese grapes, carefully hand-selected. The Sangiovese of CastelGiocondo sprouted during the first week of April and continued to grow regularly, taking advantage of the abundant water reserves left from 2014 and normal rainfall for the winter of 2015. The season continued with dry and sunny weather, which allowed for a homogeneous development of the vegetative wall. July was very hot and dry with temperatures 5° C higher than average; thanks to the agronomic choices that we have been perpetuating for years, such as autumn soil cultivation, sowing of green manure and canopy management, the vines were not excessively affected by the high temperatures of July. In the first week of August, two significant rains gave relief to the plants and lowered the temperatures allowing the vines to synthesize aromas, anthocyanins and tannins; of primary importance for the quality of the wines. |

Winemaking and Refinement | The careful care taken in the vineyard, together with the typical characteristics of this unmistakable terroir, have led to a beautiful harvest. The Sangiovese grapes were harvested by hand and once they arrived in the cellar, they were subjected to a scrupulous selection. The fermentations took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with frequent pumping over especially during the early stages. The wine was then subjected to aging in wood, where it had the opportunity to mature, refine and balance. CastelGiocondo Brunello is ready for release on the market 5 years after the harvest and only after further refinement in the bottle. |
