Gin Mare cl70
Description | Gin Mare is produced in the Vilanova I La Geltru distillery through a discontinuous distillation process with a 250-litre Florentine Alembic, created specifically for this process. For maceration, each of the eight botanicals is added individually to 200 litres of neutral grain spirit and water for 24-48 hours. The citrus fruits are instead left to macerate for a year. The distillation process takes about 4 and a half hours and the resulting spirits are mixed by the Master Distiller to create the typical taste notes of this gin. Gin Mare is a Mediterranean gin flavoured with four main botanicals: basil from Italy , thyme from Turkey , rosemary from Greece , citrus from Spain and the Arbequin olive , a typical cultivar from Catalonia . Alongside the classic juniper, coriander and cardamom, these Mediterranean aromas create a gin with typical scents and memories of the Mediterranean coasts. Curiosity... The still used is located in a chapel, inside what was once a monastery, purchased by the Giro Ribot family in the 1950s. They launched their first gin in 1940, GIN MG, one of the best-selling in Spain even today. When they decided to create a gin containing local botanicals, they began experimenting until, in 2007, in collaboration with Global Premium Brands, they created Gin Mare. To decide on the combination of botanicals, they distilled 45 of them separately, then moved on to the difficult choice. Finally, they thought of adding Arbequina olives. The stainless steel jug used to fill the still is a reproduction of the original, used for over thirty years in the distillery. A Latin motto runs around the glass window above the door of the chapel, and also appears on the bottle: Mundus appellatur Caelum, terra et mare: the world is the combination of sky, earth and sea. |

Taste | Gin Mare definitely has a “Mediterranean” flavor. It has a grassy scent on the nose, with juniper and thyme dominating, with a distant hint of olive. The flavor is of juniper, with an aftertaste of basil and rosemary, thyme and coriander. The combination is tasty and the taste is different from other gins, because it combines the traditional flavor with its own completely original touch. It is one of the few truly herbaceous gins. |
