Description

Il Bruciato is one of the most symbolic and famous wines of the Guado al Tasso winery, owned by the legendary Antinori family. It is a red wine from the prestigious Tuscan area of Bolgheri , obtained from a blend of French vines, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, which reach very high levels of quality in these lands. The name comes from a forest that in the 18th century was completely burned by the inhabitants of the area as a sign of protest against the noble Della Gherardesca family, lords of Bolgheri at the time, who forbade farmers from hunting in it.

The 2022 vintage in Bolgheri was characterized by an absence of rain from the final stages of winter until much of the summer. These climatic conditions led to an advance in both budbreak and all the other phenological phases, flowering and fruit set, up to veraison. From mid-August, the arrival of a series of storms was providential for the crucial period of grape ripening. This climatic trend in fact guaranteed a perfect state of health of the grapes but also favored a reduction in vegetative development and production in terms of quantity. Thanks to the rains in August, the grapes at the time of harvest had a good balance between sugars and acidity. The harvest began with the Merlot at the end of August, slightly earlier than average, and then continued with the Syrah and Cabernet Franc between the beginning and mid-September and then concluded with the Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon at the end of the month. The 2022 vintage is to be considered a vintage more oriented towards freshness and fruit expression than power.

Origin and name

Tuscany - Bolgheri DOC

Winemaking and Refinement Upon arrival at the cellar, the selected grapes were destemmed and softly pressed.
Fermentation and maceration took place in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks for a period of approximately 10-15 days at a temperature of 28-30 °C.
A portion of the Merlot and Syrah musts was kept at lower fermentation temperatures to better preserve the varietal aromas.
Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel tanks, and was completed by the end of the year for all varieties.
Subsequently, the Cabernet Sauvignon was joined by Merlot, Syrah, and small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: the resulting wine once again met the barrique, where it rested before being bottled.
