Description

Badia a Passignano Gran Selezione is produced exclusively from the selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the estate of the same name located in the heart of Chianti Classico. The area has been renowned for its wine production since the year 1000. The vineyards extend over a soil rich in limestone with an average amount of clay at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. The refinement takes place in the historic cellars of the 10th century Badia di Passignano.

The 2019 season in Chianti Classico was characterized by regular weather conditions, with a rather cold winter and little rainfall, and a cool and rainy start to spring, especially in the months of April and May. The summer was hot, without excessive temperatures, and characterized by slightly above-average rainfall that allowed the plants to grow properly, both in terms of vegetation and bunches. Starting from the end of August and during the months of September and October, the optimal climate, characterized by warm and sunny days and cool nights, allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly. The harvest began in the second ten days of September and was completed in the first days of October.

Origin and name

Tuscany - Badia a Passignano - Chianti Classico DOCG

Winemaking and Refinement After destemming, the grapes were carefully selected and then softly pressed. Alcoholic fermentation lasted about 10 days, after which the must macerated with its skins for a further 10-12 days. After racking, and once malolactic fermentation was complete, the wine began its ageing period in Hungarian and partly French oak barrels for a few months. During this phase it was constantly tasted in order to maximise its evolution in wood. Badia a Passignano was bottled on the estate and subsequently rested in the bottle before being released onto the market.
