Tenuta Piano di Rustano

Rustano Piano Estate

Tenuta Piano di Rustano is located in the high Terre Maceratesi, in a hilly area where the cold climate of the Apennines that cross central Italy is partly mitigated by the proximity of the Adriatic Sea. The strong temperature variations between day and night, characteristic of the altitude of 400 meters above sea level, affect the biological activity of the vine and consequently the quality of the wines produced.

The lands of the Estate, in addition to producing wine and honey, are also used for traditional agriculture. An excellent quality olive oil is produced. There are several wooded areas and a part is also cultivated with walnuts and cherry trees for wood.

It is worth telling the story of the oldest vineyard on the Estate, about 70 years old and made with an ancient variety of Malvasia. It is located on the top of a hill in an airy and sunny position on sandy and particularly permeable soil, ideal conditions for the Malvasia vine that have made such longevity possible. Composed of rows spaced 1.65 m apart, it is not possible to enter with tractors. All the work is therefore carried out strictly by hand, from the harvesting of the pruned shoots to the copper and sulphur treatments, from the cutting of the grass to the harvest, this carried out with the help of "porters", workers who carry the grapes by hand to the top of the rows where they are then loaded by the tractor.
