Montevertine was purchased in 1967 by Sergio Manetti, then a steel industrialist, as a holiday home. He restored the house making it habitable and immediately planted two hectares of vineyard and set up a small cellar with the idea of producing a little wine for his friends and customers. The first vintage produced, 1971, was decent and Sergio Manetti thought of sending some bottles to Vinitaly in Verona through the Siena Chamber of Commerce.

It was a great success and Sergio was so enthusiastic that after a few years he definitively abandoned the industrial activity to dedicate himself solely to wine, supported by the consultancy of Giulio Gambelli and with the support of Bruno Bini, the trusted cellarman. New vineyards were planted, new cellars were built, with a company growth that has never stopped. Sergio Manetti passed away in November 2000, since that day the farm has been managed by his son Martino Manetti who keeps intact the traditional values that have always been the flag of Montevertine.
