Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Ornellaia Estate

It was in 1981 that the Marquis Lodovico Antinori, cousin of Piero Antinori, founded the Tenuta Ornellaia, in the heart of the Bolgheri area.
With the first harvest in 1985, what would become an icon among SuperTuscans was born: “Ornellaia”, released on the market three years later, in 1988.
With the inauguration of the company, the world-famous oenologist, Michel Rolland, began to take care of the technical part of the cellar.
Only later, in the 90s, the other two labels were born: "Le Volte" and "Le Serre Nuove".

At the beginning of 2000, Robert Mondavi, the great Californian producer, acquired the estate, later selling 50% to Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, who purchased the other 50% only three years later.
The end of the 2000s also saw the birth of the "Poggio alle Gazze" label, which was followed by the highly select late harvest wine "Ornus", obtained from pure Petit Manseng grapes.

With almost one hundred hectares of vineyards, to which another thirteen are rented, Tenuta Ornellaia has always focused on one and only objective: quality. All decisions, all choices, take into account every smallest and smallest detail, and from the vineyard to the final bottling, no shortcuts are allowed.

The Frescobaldi Family

For 700 years the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence. The family has always sought to develop and celebrate the diversity of the Tuscan terroir. Being the proud owners of some of the largest vineyards in the region, they have always sought to maintain the identity and autonomy of each property.

ORNELLAIA, known as one of the most iconic wineries in the world, reached the peak of its development under the ownership of the Frescobaldi family.

Ornellaia is one of the estates belonging to the family, together with ATTEMS (Friuli) MASSETO, DANZANTE, LUCE DELLA VITE and the six FRESCOBALDI estates Nipozzano, CastelGiocondo, Pomino, Ammiraglia, Castiglioni and Remole.
