Description |
Spring was humid, in March and April the rains followed one after the other, then from May the sun returned, even if the temperatures remained low. Summer was dry, hot but not excessive, very sunny and with cool nights, the ideal climate for Sangiovese. Only one week was really hot, and it provided the stress necessary to give that extra something that characterizes a great vintage. At the end of August about ten days of moderate rain alternating with sunshine brought down the temperatures and gave the grapes a boost. September was sunny but moderately hot, with cool nights that allowed for optimal phenolic ripening. The harvest began on September 15th and ended on October 2nd, without any rain. A five-star vintage of the '2000s' type, with warm, alcoholic and 'fatty' wines. |
Vinification and refinement |
The crushed and destemmed grapes are placed in a tank where the normal alcoholic fermentation lasts about 12/13 days at a controlled temperature of 26-28°C. The refinement lasts about 6 months, partly in steel tanks and partly in oak barrels. |
Sensory analysis |
Color: bright ruby red, medium intensity. Bouquet: very fresh with a strong presence of small red fruits, cherry and raspberry. Notes of lime and chamomile, delicate white flowers that then leave room for nuances of mint and eucalyptus. Taste: very elegant and balsamic sip, smooth. Beautiful structure in the mid-mouth, persistent.
