Description

The most famous of the Maison's wines was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II.
The Emperor asks Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the best cuvée of the House, which he particularly appreciates. To accentuate the singularity of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle will be specially created. It will bear the name of this precious material, which enhances its transparency and luminosity.

Made only in "great vintages", when the maturity of the Chardonnay (about 40%) and Pinot Noir (about 60%) that compose it is perfect, Cristal ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests for 8 months after disgorgement.

Remarkably balanced, Cristal is a linear champagne, with an absolutely unique persistence in the mouth. The velvety texture reveals fruit aromas supported by a mineral power from which notes of white fruits and citrus are released. Cristal is a wine that ages wonderfully. It can be kept for more than twenty years without losing any of its freshness and character.

The 2013 vintage is characterized by a particularly late cycle! The interminable winter gives way to a very timid spring. In fact, it was necessary to wait until the first days of June for the vineyards to reach full bloom... It had been a long time since this had happened in Champagne! Fortunately, the summer was radiant, with record-breaking sunshine and low levels of rainfall that favored the ripening of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The October harvest took place in a cool autumn climate that gave birth to elegant wines of intense freshness... the great "classics".

"A wine of pure pleasure, a wine of great gastronomy, Cristal is delicate and powerful at the same time, yet subtle and precise." Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master

Tasting Notes

Classic, powerful and chalky.

Golden in color with bright reflections, the perlage presents itself with a fine, regular and discreet effervescence. In the powerful and complex bouquet, juicy and ripe yellow fruits intertwine, including nectarine, citrus peel (candied orange) and lightly toasted dried fruit (hazelnuts). Honeyed, chalky and elegant sensations are found in a generous and balanced palate. The material vibrates and becomes soft, dense; the freshness, slightly pungent, counterbalances the juice and gives the rhythm. The sweetness becomes energy, the sapidity lengthens the sip shaping it in a slender and at the same time elegant and powerful shape. The fine and marked tannins emphasize the more vinous, broad and relaxed dimension of the wine that closes with a salty finish.
