Description

The philosophy oriented towards the large barrel, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance, finds an extraordinary expression in Brunello Pian delle Vigne.

Pian delle Vigne represents the personal and profound interpretation of the Marchesi Antinori of a prestigious and traditional wine such as Brunello. The company has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Brunello Pian delle Vigne.

Winter and spring 2018 were characterized by slightly below-average temperatures and frequent precipitation. These climatic conditions
have ensured the accumulation of excellent water reserves in the soil, promoting regular budding and excellent fruit set. The defoliations carried out in
the month of June and the thinning of the grapes between the end of July and the beginning of August guaranteed an excellent vegetative balance and the optimal ripening of the grapes.
The harvest, slightly later than the historical average, began on September 21st and ended in early October with healthy, fragrant grapes.

Origin and Name

Tuscany - Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Winemaking and Refinement Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and softly pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration lasted about fifteen days at a temperature of 28 °C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels of between 30 and 80 hl where it began its maturation process in wood. After more than two years, Pian delle Vigne left the large barrel to begin its long refinement in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino has a ruby red color. The nose is complex, balsamic hints of menthol and cloves combine with fruity sensations of cherry, plum, date and spicy notes of cinnamon. On the palate the entry is persuasive, silky, characterized by sweet tannins and supported by an excellent freshness. The long aftertaste is characterized by aromas of vanilla and notes of violet, the latter typical of Sangiovese.
