Description

Masseria Maìme is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Alto Salento, not far from the town of San Pietro Vernotico – Brindisi. The estate extends along the coast, creating a unique landscape of vineyards that grow among woods and pine forests and disappear as far as the eye can see until they merge with the sea. The most common varieties are: Negroamaro, Primitivo, Syrah, Cabernet and Chardonnay. Calafuria comes from the vineyards that extend along the Adriatic coast. It owes its name to one of the over 700 bays in Puglia. The
region boasts a long tradition in the production of rosé wines obtained from Negroamaro, a grape variety that best expresses its potential near the sea. A delicate rosé, pleasantly fruity, savoury and full-bodied, capable of expressing the scents and colours of the production area, Salento.

The 2023 vintage in Puglia can be defined as a “two-faced” vintage:
generally mild and rainy during the winter and spring, dry and generally hot during the summer.
The vegetative-productive balance of the Tormaresca vineyards was fundamental to guarantee the optimal ripening of the grapes, thanks also to careful soil cultivation which allowed to preserve the water availability accumulated during the winter-spring phase.
The harvest took place about 10 days late. The grapes for
Calafuria grapes were harvested between August 28th and September 22nd, a longer time span than usual due to the staggered ripening of the vineyards.

Origin and Name Apulia
Salento Rosé IGT
Winemaking and Refinement The grapes, immediately after harvest, were destemmed and softly pressed. The must obtained was transferred to stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 12 °C in order to obtain a natural clarification; here the alcoholic fermentation took place, conducted at a temperature of 16 °C, to preserve and enhance the aromatic component. Calafuria aged for a short period in steel in contact with its own yeasts before bottling and subsequent release on the market.

Tasting Notes

Peach blossom pink in color, Calafuria presents fruity notes of pink grapefruit, peach, pomegranate on the nose, combined with delicate floral sensations of lavender. On the palate it is soft, stands out for its pleasant freshness, well balanced with the aromatic persistence and a delicate flavor.
