Donna Olimpia 1898
Donna Olimpia 1898 - Tageto Toscana Rosso IGT 2022 cl75
Description |
The name Donna Olimpia 1898 is in honor of Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca, who christened the estate in 1898 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their wedding. According to legend, the Etruscan people, who occupied the Tuscan lands, learned from a mysterious child named Tageth, born from the furrow of the plough used by Tarconte, the way to cultivate vines and olives. Tageto is obtained from grapes from the Donna Olimpia 1898 vineyards located in Bolgheri (LI), one of the most iconic wine-growing areas in Italy, which grow on sandy, silty soil on the coastal strip of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The 2022 seasonal trend was not easy to manage in the Bolgheri DOC area. |
Grapes used | Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc |
Winemaking technique | When the grapes are fully ripe, they have been selected directly in the vineyard and then taken to the cellar for vinification. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel wine vats at a controlled temperature, favoring prolonged contact of the skins with the must. Malolactic fermentation takes place at the end of September, immediately after alcoholic fermentation. The refinement lasts 4-6 months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one year old) and 6 months in the bottle. |
